RARB on Redline's Inbound album: "It's all here."

The Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB) just released their review of Redline’s latest album Inbound to the lovely sound of high praise. The reviewers had no trouble finding positive things to say, and here are just a few of their comments:

“Inbound could be the model of a successful modern a cappella album. All the elements, all the trends: it’s all here.”

“These guys have selected repertoire with a lot of energy — and they deliver it. (…) Redline has given us a strong debut recording.”

“There is a definite, consistent vibe to this album, which may be as hard to achieve as making a really memorable album.”

Clearly, the fellas of Redline knew what they were doing.

We were happy to have our production praised as well, with RARB saying “credit must be given to Liquid 5th Productions; this is an album for audiophiles. Every arrangement is taken to a higher level by inventive and creative production work. The mix is masterful, keeping disparate parts separate and never overwhelming the ear with too much sonic information.” Our team of engineers included Chris Juengel behind the editing board and Carl Taylor behind mixing and mastering, and they’ve been working pretty freaking hard lately on projects like this.

The bottom line? These guys can SING…and arrange and perform and a whole bunch of impressive things. We were honored to work with them on this project and you can expect to hear some pretty sweet stuff from them in the future. Stay tuned!

Well, it’s the first day of spring, but we’ve been getting ready for the season change for quite a while now. Since we couldn’t make spring come any faster, we figured we’d get a head start on some spring releases, and we’re pretty excited about what our clients have conjured up to unleash on the public over the next few months.

The A Cappella Blog: Midnight Ramblers Album is "Sheer Brilliance"

Mike Chin of the A Cappella Blog recently posted his review of the Midnight Ramblers’ new album Revival, and it seems like he’s a fan. Chin takes note of the risky nature of a seamless album, saying “rare is the a cappella group that dares to take a stab at a seamless album—a full set of tracks with no breaks between songs[…and] the Midnight Ramblers do not fail,” adding that the “the overarching design of the album is sheer brilliance.”

Chin also gives much individual credit to the Ramblers’ Music Director Noah Berg, and deservedly so. Berg, a recording & editing engineer for Liquid 5th, teamed up with L5’s mixing engineer Carl Taylor and our new mastering engineer Eric Scholz for what the A Cappella Blog describes as “masterful production from Liquid 5th [which results in] a unique listening experience that’s simultaneously fluid and engaging.”

Well, it’s 2012, and a slew of a cappella festivals are on the horizon. First on the list is the Philadelphia A Cappella Project next Saturday. One week later comes the Liquid 5th-sponsored Los Angeles A Cappella Festival at the end of the month. Followed closely behind that is the entirely Liquid 5th-produced-and-sponsored Amplify Providence, just announced yesterday. For those in MA who can’t make it to that, be sure to stop by the also-new NE Voices on the same weekend. Fast forward a month and you get Singstrong in DC. Then April swoops in with yet ANOTHER new festival…CASA’s BOSS up in Boston. Are we forgetting anything? Oh yeah…take your pick from any of Varsity Vocals’ ICCA and ICHSA events happening from now through April.

Folks, if you can’t find any a cappella anytime soon, then we’ve got some bigger fish to fry. Hope to see you at any (or all) of these great events!

The first time I heard this tune, it was at SoJam 2011 when NC State Acappology took the stage. Starting with a haunting dirge as they walked onstage, it quickly changed into a powerful but still haunting introduction, with the ladies of the group cutting through the mix with a strong, yet still haunting riff.

Then the bass dropped with a hard four-on-the-floor house beat, and I just about jumped out of my seat. I knew I was doomed. Here is a song that I’d never heard before, and I was absolutely taken away by it. Acappology had brought it.

But by the end of the festival, having been inundated with so much incredible music, it took a day or two to come back to it. Luckily, MouthOff’s “Sounds of SoJam 2011” episode the next week brought it all back and told me where to go next.

BREAKING ACA-NEWS: The lineup for the first ever Boston Sings: An A Cappella Revolution has been announced! Redline will be joining a cappella powerhouses Cadence and Traces in the Professional Showcase in what might be our biggest show…ever. Emoticons fall disappointingly short of expressing how stoked we are about this show, so we’ll have to settle for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This festival is going to be seriously off the chain (as the kids are saying these days), and aca-singers and aca-fans alike will *not* want to miss it. Post coming soon with more details, including where you can snag your tickets.
